Geography of Colombia: Beyond the Stereotypes
Go to ground.news/geographygeek for local perspectives on global
issues. My link gets you 40% off the Ground News unlimited access Vantage plan.
Colombia has long been plagued by negative stereotypes and a troubled past, but the reality is changing dramatically. The country's murder rate is now about a third of what it was in the early '90s, and kidnappings have dropped by over 92 percent since the year 2000. Beyond safety improvements, Colombia is preserving its rich biodiversity, has become a global leader in innovation, excelling in its coffee industry, and may be on the verge of spreading its vibrant culture and influence across the globe.

Geography of Papua New Guinea: The Most Interesting Country in the World?
Просмотров 431 тыс.3 месяца назад
In my opinion, Papua New Guinea is one of the most interesting countries in the world. The country makes up less than 1% of the world's land mass yet is home to nearly 12% of the world’s languages and contains over 5% of the world's plant and animal species. To outsiders, the people have some of the world’s wildest cultural traditions, and no one knows exactly how many people even live in the c...

The Map that made the US-Mexico Border
Просмотров 17 тыс.4 месяца назад
This…is one of the most important maps in US and Mexican history. It’s the map used to negotiate the border between the two countries to end the Mexican-American war in 1848, including Texas it transferred over half of Mexico’s land to the US. But it wasn’t a clean-cut deal. The map had some serious errors and the US quickly wanted more land…nearly bringing to two countries to back to war. Rare...

Why California is an Island on Old Maps
Просмотров 111 тыс.6 месяцев назад
Maps from the 16th to the 18th century are riddled with errors, myths, bad theories, & lies but one really stands out amongst the others. For hundreds of years, California was depicted as an island. If we go to raremaps.com and type in the Island of California, we see one map after another. I’m not counting every single map but there could be hundreds listed here. This may very well be the most...

what blows me away is that back in the day they knew that the earth was round but just because that would make some people feel bad they kept their mouth shut. now I wonder what else they kept their mouth shut about that they already knew it looks like our ancestors wasn't as clueless as we thought. just didn't have the tech to test there educated guesses.

„Without modern infrastructure“ - Eurocentric yikes. Perhaps reconsider your perspective on modernity and development?
As we know India slammed up into the Asia and made the himalayan mountain range, well Madagascar was once a part of India if you look at the west side of Madagascar how it will perfectly fits into place on the east side bottom of India. So there was no continent of Lemuria, Madagascar was just once part of India.

This was surprising to me because calling babies ugly tradition from Thailand is also a thing in Turkey for the same reasons. While it’s not as common anymore I remember people calling a cute child “my ugly one”.
Hyperborea is real
It actually existed. Then, British pirates came and stolen it. Ah! those British pirates!
Sounds like Tir na nOg… 🤔
love my home!
Thank you, thank you for having the respect to call it App-ah-latch-a. I get so annoyed with people who do documentaries of Appalachia and can’t even get the pronunciation correct! I quit listening the minute they do because their ignorance is so annoying and when you attempt to gently tell them the correct pronunciation they look down their noses and assure you BOTH pronunciations are correct. I mean, really?? I am 4th generation Appalachian and definitely know how we pronounce where we have lived for over 150 years. Talk about being disrespectful, that’s it! If you want to document about an area, at least have the integrity to try to get it right. On a better note, I really did enjoy this video. Thank you for posting it and for allowing me to vent just a little.

Although I can’t ever be fooked commenting on RUclips videos, I’m half cut- and feel the author of this video may benefit from this comment somehow through “total numbers of comments” or some shite like that. So… This is a very informative video. Love auld maps. Five stars.

You realize calligraphy has improved over the years and different cultures have conflicting versions over time due to errors? 😂
Yeah man I know nothing about calligraphy.
@@GeographyGeek I’m saying you can’t look at old maps and find concrete evidence considering the lack of technology Also we live in an age where you can verify all modern maps with gps So sorry to wreck you hobby
@@user-ls4cw3od2u I have no idea what you’re even saying. I never suggested this was accurate. Not in the least bit.
@@GeographyGeek i apologize for the misunderstanding
A lot of things you mention is only specific to certain tribes or places. We have more than 1000 tribes and our culture and language differ from one another. PNG is if not, the most complex nation on earth. But we can show the world that despite our diversity, we are united as one nation, one people, one Papua New Guinea.🇵🇬🇵🇬
This video really getting recomended at 1 am
Its not a "new suez canal". If you are mentally retarded, stop making videos on such issues, go do something for toggo or something
I lived in Papua New Guinea for two years. It’s wonderful.
